About Us
Arey Building Supply has been serving Central Bradford County for over 60 years. It was opened as a family-run lumber yard in 1962 by Glenn and Genevieve Arey as Arey Lumber. They ran it until the early 1980s. It changed hands to Stephen Webster upon Glenn's unexpected death, and again in 2002 when Jim and Nanette Good purchased it. They changed the name to Arey Building Supply, when they added significant plumbing and electrical departments.
Current owners, Melinda and Dave Gourlie, have owned it since 2017, and have worked here full time since 2015. Melinda is Jim and Nanette's oldest daughter, and enjoys serving her hometown community. Melinda laughs that she imported Dave from British Columbia, Canada. He grew up in the building supply industry as his dad managed various stores throughout BC. They are always willing to help with whatever building need or problem you might have. Both Gourlie's can be found at the store daily in the back offices, the store floor, and up front at the counter while helping customers. You might even see their children, Beckett and Makenna, "helping out" after preschool and on weekends.
As avid supporters of local youth organizations, Arey's has sponsored everything from softball, clay shooting, T-ball, swimming, the YMCA, performing arts, 4-H, scouts, lacrosse and many others. They appreciate all of their customers which allow them to further serve the surrounding Bradford and Sullivan County communities.
